Memorial Day is on May 28th and has great significance for the people of United States of America especially for the families who lost someone on the battlefield. On this day people go to the graves which hold individuals from the military who served from the Civil War to Operation Iraqi Freedom. Each rank from the most reduced to the most elevated is spoken to. A portion of those covered in Arlington died young, on a dynamic obligation. Some died old, decades after leaving the military. The religious images engraved on the headstones incorporated the Latin cross, Star of David, Star, and Crescent and much more. Some have no religious images. The names on the graves represent individuals from everywhere throughout the planet, reminding us why it is frequently said that the U.S. military is the world’s most differing association. On this Memorial Day plan a visit to the graveyard and pray for the families who lost their someone on the battlefield. Memorial Day Prayers
- 1) For Troops
All-powerful and ever-living God,
when Abraham left his native land
and departed from his people
you kept him safe through all his journeys.
Protect these soldiers.
Be their constant companion and their strength in battle,
their refuge in every adversity.
Guide them, O Lord, that they may return home in safety.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
- 2) For Deceased Veterans
O God,
by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest,
look kindly on your departed veterans who gave them
lives in the service of their country.
Grant that through the passion, death, and resurrection of your Son
they may share in the joy of your heavenly kingdom
and rejoice in you with your saints forever.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
- 3) For the Safety of Soldiers
Almighty and eternal God,
those who take refuge in you will be glad
and forever will shout for joy.
Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties.
Protect them with the shield of your strength
and keep them safe from all evil and harm.
May the power of your love enable them to return home
in safety, that with all who love them,
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
- 4) For Fellow Combatants
Lord God,
Remember Christ your Son who is peace itself
and who has washed away our hatred with His blood.
Because you love all men and women,
look with mercy on all who are engaged in battle.
Banish the violence and evil within all combatants
so that one day, we may all deserve to be
called your sons and your daughters.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
- 5) We Remember
We remember the many brave men and women
who have given their lives
through the history of our country
to protect us from danger and harm.
We remember all those who sustained an injury
in mind and/or body in the course of their service.
We salute all those who served in the military.

- 6) Prayer for Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)
God of power and mercy,
you destroy war and put down earthly pride.
Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears,
that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters.
Keep in your mercy those men and women
who have died in the cause of freedom
and bring them safely
into your kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- 7) Prayer for refugees and victims of war
Lord God,
no one is a stranger to you
and no one is ever far from your loving care.
In your kindness, watch over refugees and victims of war,
those separated from their loved ones,
young people who are lost,
and those who have left home or who have run away from home.
Bring them back safely to the place where they long to be
and help us always to show your kindness
to strangers and to all in need
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
- 8) Remembrance prayer for children
We remember those who stood for love and truth,
And thank you for the sacrifice they made for me and you.
Thank you that we can now enjoy the peace and learn to love not fight,
Thank you that we can now sing and play, and not be scared or hide.
We pray for other countries where children live in fear,
And there is war and fighting and many are in tears.
Please help to make things better, and bring some peace to them.
Protect all those who try and help to make friends again.
- 9) Heavenly Father,
On this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down
their lives for the cause of freedom. May the example of their sacrifice
inspire in us the selfless love of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their
lives with your strength and peace.
In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to
answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end
to violence and conflict around the globe.
We pray through Christ our Lord.
- 10) A Memorial Day Prayer
As our nation pauses today to remember those in the military who have given their lives for freedoms we enjoy,
we pray you would have us all look to you for strength, comfort, and guidance.
Be with all who serve in our Armed Forces. Bless them and their families.
Grant your loving protection. Let peace prevail among all the nations,
O God Especially let your mercy rest upon our land, even as we acknowledge with thanksgiving your past goodness on this country.
If it is your will, preserve the lives of the men and women in uniform as they defend our citizenry.
Most of all, we pray that you would turn the hearts of all – military and civilian –
to your holy Word where we find the true peace for our sinful souls that surpasses all understanding. Keep us repentant of sin. Move us to know, take hold and treasure your saving grace.
In this peace and hope for eternity, we pray.
